Prop 4 | Cal Parks

Prop 4 Has Passed!

Proposition 4 — The Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024, has passed! The passage of Prop 4 authorizes up to $10 billion in bonds to help the state become more climate resilient. The investments in state parks will include $175 million in deferred maintenance, $50 million in sea level rise adaptation projects, and $200 million to build parks and recreational facilities in local communities.

How does Prop 4 benefit California state parks?

Proposition 4 aims to address critical needs in California's state parks by investing $175 million in deferred maintenance projects, such as repairing roads, trails, and roofs, which face a backlog exceeding $1 billion. This funding approach ensures that resources are not reclaimed in future budget cuts. Additionally, Proposition 4 allocates $50 million to sea level rise adaptation projects on state beaches, highlighting the urgent need to protect California's coastline, where up to 75% of beaches could disappear by 2100. This funding is crucial, as previous allocations for climate resilience were redirected. Finally, Proposition 4 provides $200 million to the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program, supporting underserved communities in building parks and recreational facilities, a priority following the reallocation of previous funds. Read more about investments for California state parks.
