Chino Hills State Park

Chino Hills State Park

On May 10, we were thrilled to have 71 dedicated volunteers join us at Chino Hills State Park! They focused on removing invasive mustard around the discovery center and parking lot. Targeting specific areas will help prevent the further spread of these pesky weeds. They cleared an impressive 14,240 square feet of invasive species by the end of the workday. Special thank you to our Volunteer Program Manager Melissa Potts, Volunteer Core Leaders Lisa LaFlame and Stephanie Klem, and park staff partners for their leadership in ensuring a successful workday event. We would also like to express our gratitude to the amazing employees of Marriott who volunteered their time as an organization — you all made a significant impact!

Half Moon Bay State Beach

Half Moon Bay State Beach

On May 20, we had 26 rockstar volunteers join us at Half Moon Bay State Beach! With enthusiasm, they tackled the invasive burr parsley, hemlock, mustard, thistle, and ice plant that threatened the park's delicate ecosystem. Together, they removed 13,900 square feet of invasive species. But it wasn’t all work! During the day, our volunteers were treated to a guided walk through two restored areas. The breathtaking sight of native flowers in full bloom served as a reminder of the importance of protecting and preserving our natural resources. Special thank you to our Volunteer Core Leader John Salcido and park staff partners for their leadership in hosting a fantastic workday event.

Garrapata State Park

Garrapata State Park

On May 23, we had 23 awesome volunteers join us at Garrapata State Park! Volunteers removed 16,000 square feet of invasive species in an area where native coastal buckwheat had been replanted. This restoration effort is vital to the endangered Smith’s blue butterfly as it relies on specific host plants like coastal buckwheat for the survival of its larvae. By directly supporting the life cycle of this magnificent butterfly, our volunteers contribute to preserving its presence in the park. Special thank you to our Volunteer Core Leader Rick McGarrity and park staff partner for their leadership in hosting an impactful workday event.
