August Workday Impacts:
“Thank you for the opportunity to give back to California state parks!” - Volunteer, Fort Ord Dunes State Park
Half Moon Bay State Beach
On August 13, a group of 54 volunteers joined our Half Moon Bay State Beach workday event – setting the record for the most attended Half Moon Bay State Beach workday of 2022! With beautiful ocean views and the sounds of calming waves crashing, our volunteers removed 46,000 square feet of invasive European beachgrass, ice plant, mustard, and thistle. Their efforts will help protect and preserve the park by helping return its coastal ecosystem to a natural state. Click here to join our next volunteer workday at Half Moon Bay State Beach!
Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park
On August 6, we had 34 volunteers join us at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Surrounded by ancient coast redwood trees, our volunteers supported park maintenance staff with various projects. They helped repair picnic tables and benches, raked debris around the day-use areas, and planed redwood boards to smoothen and flatten the wood used for the long group picnic tables in the Bay Tree Grove. Their efforts will ensure the area remains ready and welcoming for future park visitors to enjoy. Click here to join a volunteer workday near you!
Candlestick Point State Recreation Area
On August 20, we had 23 volunteers join us at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area. While overseeing spectacular views of the Bay Area, volunteers collected 26 bags of trash around the park’s entrance and at the Jackrabbit picnic area. Their efforts will help prevent the trash from blowing into the San Francisco Bay and ensure future visitors have positive and safe experiences at the park. A special thank you to volunteers from Gay for Good San Francisco for joining us at this workday event. Click here to join our next volunteer workday at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area!
Los Angeles State Historic Park
On August 27, we had 24 volunteers join us at Los Angeles State Historic Park nestled in the heart of vibrant Los Angeles. In this quiet, peaceful sanctuary surrounded by California sycamores and lush green grass, our volunteers removed 3,176 invasive species such as fennel, cheeseweed, and thistle. Their efforts will help prevent the encroachment of invasive species that suppress natural habitat from thriving and prepare the park for planting in the fall.
