Membership Assistant (Temporary) | Cal Parks

With a rich history spanning more than five decades, California State Parks Foundation champions the cause of California state parks, ensuring their protection and preservation for the greater good. By collaborating with park partners and dedicated park staff, as well as engaging policymakers in Sacramento, we actively address the challenges faced by our beloved parks. The Membership Assistant is responsible for the daily entry and audit of membership receipts, processing office mail, responding to donor inquiries via phone and email, and preparing and mailing acknowledgment letters. This position shares responsibility for providing customer service to current and potential California State Parks Foundation members and donors, and is on the front line for all inquiries across the organization.  

 

This position is currently funded for a fixed term (May – December 2025), with the possibility of extension contingent on available funding. The position is a full-time, non-exempt position eligible for overtime as approved. The Membership Assistant will be required to work on-site at our San Francisco office 4 days per week, Monday through Thursday.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Membership Operations (60%):  

  • Sort and distribute office mail daily
  • Daily data entry and audit of membership and donation receipts through lockbox, in-house checks, in-house charges, etc.
  • Scan, file, and store donor records
  • Maintain membership workspaces, including office counters and mail processing locations 

 

Member Services (40%):  

  • Answer phones for membership and organization phone lines, re-directing inquiries as needed
  • Monitor, answer, and respond to member/donor issues and inquiries via phone, email, and letter, in a timely manner
  • Process both email and mail removal requests and submit necessary paperwork
  • Prepare and mail acknowledgement letters and membership benefits
  • Other duties as assigned  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Commitment to California State Parks Foundation’s mission and Justice, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity initiatives.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills. 

  • Data entry experience preferred.   

  • Salesforce experience preferred.  

  • Customer service experience preferred.  

  • Self-motivated; able to multi-task with excellent attention to detail, project management, and can perform successfully without regular supervision. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Slack, Asana and CRM technology. 

  • Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations. 

  • Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences. 

  • Prioritizes tasks effectively and accomplishes tasks efficiently. 

  • Demonstrated ability to accept and apply feedback, follow leadership and align with organizational decisions. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with outstanding interpersonal skills, with ability to develop and sustain trusted relationships. 

  • Able to work at a computer for long periods of time, work in and move across an office setting, communicate with colleagues and constituents, and occasionally move items up to 25 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation.

COMPENSATION:   

 

This is a temporary full-time, non-exempt position @ 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for any work completed up to 40 hours a week is $24 - $28 per hour. You may also be eligible for overtime (any work above 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week), and your overtime rate is $36 - $42/hour. You may also be eligible for double time, and your double time rate will be $48 - $56/hour. Regular, overtime and double overtime are pursuant to state, federal and the Organization’s guidelines.
