Nearly 2,000 volunteers completed various Earth Day improvement projects at 17 State Parks across the state on Saturday, April 14. Volunteers planted 1,800 native trees and plants; removed 278 bags of non-native and exotic plants; and restored the Water Wheel at Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park, a Campfire Center at Millerton Lake State Recreation Area, and a bridge at Sonoma Coast State Park, among many other projects!  In addition, California State Parks Foundation’s first-ever food drive (at 8 locations) was a success! Earth Day volunteers brought with them to the park over 1,100 pounds of canned/boxed foods, benefiting the local community food banks. Bravo!
